Deacons likewise must be serious, not double-tongued, not indulging in much wine, not greedy for money; they must hold fast to the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience.  And let them first be tested; then, if they prove themselves blameless, let them serve as deacons.

…for those who serve well as deacons gain a good standing for themselves and great boldness in the faith that is in Christ Jesus.

1 Timothy 3:8–10, 13 (NRSV)

At Topsail Presbyterian Church, our Deacons serve in a ministry of compassion, witness, and service, supporting the pastor, Session, and congregation in caring for the needs of our church family.

Our primary focus is reaching out to members who can no longer participate in church activities due to health concerns, limited mobility, or lack of transportation. We also walk alongside those experiencing grief, as well as military members and families during times of deployment.

How We Serve:

  • Regular phone calls, home visits, and personal notes of encouragement
  • Offering home communion
  • Sharing information about church activities
  • Running small errands (pharmacy, groceries, bank, post office) for those who are homebound
  • Organizing Meal Trains for members recovering from surgery or illness
  • Sending “Cheer Boxes” to deployed military members, funded by donations from the congregation

In addition, the Deacon Board maintains:

  • A small lending library
  • A display of free CareNotes and booklets offering practical guidance on topics such as grief, caregiving, stress, anger, depression, and youth/teen concerns
  • Free resource lists of local and Wilmington-area service providers

We are deeply grateful for the many volunteers who partner with us by running errands, providing transportation, preparing meals, and delivering donated chancel flowers. Together, we extend the love and care of Christ to our church family.
